ULF-GUIDO SCHÄFER, CLARINET
Guido Schäfer studied the clarinet with Professor Hans Deinzer in Hannover, winning several prizes during this time: winner of the „Deutsche Musikwettbewerb“, and a member of the highly selected „Bundesauswahl junger Künstler“. From 1989 until 1994 he was the Principal clarinet of the „Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie“ making numerous chamber music recordings. Since 1994 he is Principal clarinet of the NDR Radio Philharmonie. Guido Schäfer has played solo concertos internationally with conductors such as H. Schiff , J. Belohlavek, E. Oue, P. Berglund etc. His chamber music groups include: ensemble acht, Trio Roseau, Arte-Ensemble des NDR and his highly acclaimed wind quintet: "Ma'alot Quintett“; an ensemble winning many first prizes including the first prize in the ARD competition in Munich.
He is also a talented and successful music arranger. Both his wind quintet arrangements for the Ma'alot quintet of Dvorak and Rossini have been awarded „Echo Klassik“ prizes. He has arranged works commissioned by the NDR, WDR, Rheingau Musikfest, Beethovenfest Bonn, the Niedersächsische Musiktage and the Scharoun Ensemble. His music for the children's theatre pieces such as „Papa Haydn“ and 'Ritter Gluck im Glück“ have been incredibly successful.
Guido also teaches clarinet at the „Hochschule für Musik u. Theater“ in Hannover.
